Anxiety has become one of the most common psychological disorders in recent years. When we overdo it at work, in demonstrating to ourselves an excessive demand or we stop giving importance to our true needs as human beings, anxiety somatizes physically, creating a difficult but very possible barrier to overcome.
Let me let you in on a secret after learning from my own personal anxiety: its real message is to make us see that we are not taking care of ourselves and are overlooking the greatness of our potential.
I invite you, before continuing this article, if anxiety is present in your daily life, to take some time, in the way you prefer and best suits you, to take care of yourself, to love yourself and to be aware of how beautiful and brilliant you are. This true and authentic belief will put an end to these unpleasant physical symptoms caused by anxiety.
What are the 5 signs that show you are anxious?
Belching and flatulence. Food is a very important factor that can condition our psychological health. It is logical that anxiety produces gas and belching, since when we are anxious we eat and drink a lot in a hurry. When we do this action quickly, we generate a great hyperactivity in our intestines, stirring up the acids in our stomach and causing gas.
Breathing is also important when it comes to feeling calm. It helps us to avoid states of anxiety where our breathing, being faster, makes us more prone to the expulsion of gas and belching.
If you tend to feel bloated and with excessive desire to burp constantly, I invite you to review your eating and lifestyle to leave aside anxiety.
Cold hands and feet. It is true that the weather has a lot to do when it comes to perceive our body extremities at low temperatures, or what is the same, cold. But anxiety also produces the redirection of blood flow away from the extremities to redirect it to the body organs, producing such cold alteration in our body.
Why does it happen while we are anxious? This immune response tries to protect the most important organs when our body perceives a dangerous situation.
Skin problems. Numerous studies have shown a strong relationship between anxiety and our skin. When we feel anxiety at too high a level, it can lead to skin problems such as allergies, dermatitis, acne and eczema.
Why does our body respond to anxiety in this way? If we are anxious we are producing stress and increasing our cortisol, which lowers our body’s defenses and more specifically those of our skin.
Frequent yawning. It is true that yawning occurs when we are tired, bored or simply sleepy. Also when we are anxious this action occurs because anxiety causes breathing problems, such as hyperventilation. Through hyperventilation our body orders the brain to take deep breaths, such as yawning.
Feeling of unreality. Have you ever encountered people who daydream and perceive everything as very real even though it is a “dream” or idea? Then you are probably dealing with a person with anxiety since this sensation is one of their main symptoms. The feeling of unreality is a sensation where the environment becomes fictitious and we think it is real.
In these cases, many people come to perform their daily actions as a routine and without being aware that they are living an unreality. It is true that this is not one of the most common symptoms of anxiety, but it can have important consequences. But if the anxiety reaches a high level and originates accompanied by stress, it is likely that we can live episodes of unreality.
If you are familiar with any of these situations in your daily life, I invite you to consider going to a professional you trust and with whom you feel comfortable working. Being aware of our physical and mental state will help us to know how to listen to our body. Many times it can provide us with signals to overcome each of the barriers that are preventing us from growing as human beings.
Do not neglect your emotional well-being. Many times its neglect is the origin of physical somatizations in the form of diseases and/or body alterations.
